A Quiet Place is a example of a detailed base layer of my process. A sketch and ink. I lived in Tokyo and took ink classes and fell in love with working with it. The teacher was less happy with my efforts, because she made me keep doing the same letter over and over and over (I have pages still of the same thing!) What it taught me was incredible control over the media. I love inks because they are strongly pigmented yet act like watercolor.
A quite place is a family of black bears and I loved it so much black and white, minimalistic, I left it as is.

Emotional Impact
In 2015, all my hair fell out with my alopecia. For years I hid and cried and was embarrassed to be seen. 10 years later, I did the scariest thing and went to the state fair bald. I was terrified. But you know what? I ended the night feeling totally empowered. I never felt so vulnerable in my life, and I ended up having a night filled with love and support. I started putting my art on clothing to help feel more confident, live boldly, and celebrate feeling beautiful on the outside and inside. It makes me so happy that other women get to feel beautiful and confident too.
