I’ve enjoyed painting animals for several years, the emotions they convey and energy.
Motion is painted with charcoal, oil, and oil bar and is inspired by the elephants I spotted in Kenya on my 30th birthday. Ever since I was a little girl, and saw the Jane Goodall documentary at the Minneapolis Science Museum, I dreamed of going to Kenya myself to observe the wildlife. It was an unforgettable trip, filled with awe and inspiration for many of my animal paintings! Elephants are some of my favorite animals to paint. I find their memories (ability to recognize other elephants after decades) and emotional bonds to family so special.

In 2015, all my hair fell out with my alopecia. For years I hid and cried and was embarrassed to be seen. 10 years later, I did the scariest thing and went to the state fair bald. I was terrified. But you know what? I ended the night feeling totally empowered. I never felt so vulnerable in my life, and I ended up having a night filled with love and support. I started putting my art on clothing to help feel more confident, live boldly, and celebrate feeling beautiful on the outside and inside. It makes me so happy that other women get to feel beautiful and confident too.
